Mobiliário esculpido em pedra
Corinthian is the most elaborate column of the three main columns in architectural history. Ionic and Doric are the others.
Carved in stone combined the structure of a building with sculpture. The two disciplines meet in the verticality and purity of such a noble material, stone.
As a brand we want to combine and emphasize the artistic element with utilitarian pieces. Let's take the example of a bathroom sink. Utilitarian element, found in every home; why not give it a sculptural/artistic value? Embellish the utilitarian as the Greeks did in their Corinthian columns.
Coríntia is born in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, with Mediterranean references, two different spheres and with different cultures in the use of ornamental rocks. The link between the purity and immaculateness of nature, the raw, the exotic universe of waterfalls with a quartzite background versus the tradition of using stone as ornament and masonry.
Sustainability and artisanal production
Our ecological footprint
Honoring the legacy of mineral craftsmanship from Morro do Chapéu, Coríntia comes up with a catalog where the two pieces are entirely produced by hand. It is our premise to recover the artisans of the land who have been escaping due to lack of opportunities in the field. Mastery and dexterity, crucial adjectives for those who work with hard and resistant Quartzite.
Alongside our social intentions, the recovery of the artisans who belonged to the extinct Morro do Chapéu school and cooperative, sustainability, whether in production methods or raw materials, is imperative.
In Corinthia, the stones we carve are exclusively waste that mining companies discard. These tailings, called ‘tailing dams’, have a large environmental impact, occupying large areas where they affect biodiversity, from the fauna to the flora of the place.
Due to its geological properties, with greater resistance and lower absorption capacity, we do not use synthetic resins. As Corinthia grows, every step will be taken with a sustainable responsibility, thinking about the environment and the useful life of the stone.
The support of impactful values and attitudes must be justified through environmental impact studies. Coríntia, in partnership with the Architect and master's student in sustainable engineering at the University of Copenhagen, Manuel Higgs Morgado, creates a bridge between academia and the company's daily practices. A consultancy that aims for an absolute transition in the near future of Corinthia and entry into the Danish market.
Our Time
Guilherme Falcão Babo
Born in Portalegre, Alentejo region, in Portugal, Guilherme Falcão has a Master's degree in Architecture, having attended the University of Lisbon and the University of Porto, in Portugal.
Art is not only part of his education, it is a language that he inherited from his grandfather, the painter José Manuel Falcão, very early on. In an artistic environment and building a network of references that would become food for his work, he transports all his cultural baggage to Brazil, where in 2021 he begins his activity in architecture and in 2022 he opens Atelier Coríntia, with Rozana Burgos and the engineer Rafael Vasconcellos, knowledgeable about the geology of Chapada Diamantina. At Coríntia he holds the position of Creative Director and Head Designer
The transition from architecture to sculpture/design was natural, at the University of Porto, as a Master’s thesis, writes ‘The presence of Form’. An essay that seeks a correlation between the process of making architecture, with all its formal intentions, and sculpture. The work of deconstructing a massive block under the pretext of architectural intentions with acts of subtraction and composition – full – empty – positive – negative – is today translated into utilitarian sculptures.
